Wednesday, October 31, 2018 (S56E146): It’s Halloween…

Peter is surprised when he learns it’s Maxie’s birthday, as well as Halloween; he is dressed up as a baseball player, tells her he is going to the fundraiser tonight and asks her to go with him.  She tells him she would rather not, explaining that she has never been big on celebrating this day – she says she’ll be fine and makes him leave.  He exits, but shortly returns, out of costume, with dinner and a birthday cake in hand; he talks her into letting him in and they enjoy an evening together, binge-watching The Brady Bunch from the pilot episode.  Maxie says she is “so happy right now.”  Peter says he is too.

Felicia is setting up for the fundraiser, at The Floating Rib… she is started when “Kevin” appears out of nowhere; he makes small talk instead of giving a specific reason he’s there.  He had told Laura he had a meeting; she’s at the hospital campaigning still, or working on her campaign platform – social welfare/ mental health.  She says, she doesn’t really think she has a chance of winning, but she is happy to be able to bring attention to these issues.  “Kevin” offers to help Felicia set up for the party, as he carries on conversation; she mentions being glad that she’s home and settled now, especially with it being the anniversary of the Ryan Chamberlain murders.  “Kevin” questions if she doesn’t miss the adventure; Felicia says that she has learned, “grandmother-ing is the best adventure of all.”  One of the caterers comes in with a tray; “Kevin” manages to get a folding knife off of it and slips it into his pocket.  Ava comes in and tells him that they have an appointment for next Tuesday, at 2pm; he says he is looking forward to it.  Felicia is shocked that he would be treating “that woman” but he pleads the case that everyone is entitled to affordable healthcare; she concedes.  He slips over to speak with Ava; she says she has been engaging in some “harmless mischief.”  He says, “good for you” and tells her he can’t wait to hear all about it at their next meeting.  More guests arrive; the party begins.

Before Sam and Jason take their kids trick or treating, they talk about how Jason never cared about Halloween; he explains to them, it is because he doesn’t remember it as a child.  They sit on the couch at the end of the evening, laughing at the kids “in a sugar coma” – Jason carries one off to bed.  He teases Sam for her choice of a goat as a costume for Scout; he asks about Danny’s past costumes.  Sam tells him that she doesn’t care that he wasn’t there for past Halloweens or that he doesn’t like them; she says she is just happy he is there for this one.  She lays her head on his shoulder; he says he is happy too.  They kiss.
