Thursday, June 28, 2018 (S56E62): Chase’s Promise

As Alexis and Kiki talk about the lawsuit and how they are going to move forward, Bensch walks in to Charlies; Kiki freezes momentarily.  Alexis tells her this is her chance and gets her to focus on her.  Kiki says she is fine; Alexis warns Dr. Bensch that they will be seeing him in court.  Kiki stares him down as he holds his to-go bag before leaving. Finn comes in to ask Franco if he wants a burger from Charlie’s, which surprises Franco.  Finn says Apiphany made him ask; Franco thanks him but turns it down.  Ava says he should have accepted and then asked Finn about what is in the lab there, thinking there may be something that could help them kill Bensch.

Franco laughs and tells Ava they aren’t seriously talking about killing the man; they were just venting.  She says she doesn’t vent; she lets him know that she is absolutely serious about it, if Kiki doesn’t prevail in court.  Franco tells Kiki, “if the law fails Kiki, then we won’t.”  Scotty comes in and tells them that Bensch approached him about defending him against Kiki’s complaint; he says he turned him down, pointing out what a good father and friend that makes him.  Ava smiles and looks at Franco; Scotty asks, “what?”  She has an idea; Scotty goes back to the hospital and tells Dr. Bensch that he will take his case after all.Finn comes in and sees Alexis at Charlie’s; she tells him she is still a bit mad at him.  She tells him that cynicism is her specialty, because it masks the pain, which is the part she isn’t very good at; she says she is trying to figure out why she does what she does.  He tries to take blame for their relationship, but she says it’s about her making decisions that are bad for her… and he is one of them.

For some reason, Dante reflects back to Lulu drowning, and him jumping in to rescue her and trying to get her to breathe; he gets a phone call, which interrupts his memory.  When Lulu comes home, Dante asks if they can talk; he tells her the guy who tried to drown her has been found.  He is being transferred to the task force going to get the man; she questions why he has to be on the task force… he tells her he asked to be included.  He says this is a way to make a change; these arms dealers hurt thousands of people and he can’t let what happened to her, happen to anyone else.  He reminds her they are teaching their kids to lead by example, and he has to do what is right.  She asks how much time they have; he kisses her.  When Dante tells Chase he is going to be leaving, Chase promises to look out for his family while he is gone; they shake hands.

Nelle questions why Michael wants to marry her now; he claims it’s because he wants to be a real family.  She points out that marriage and parenthood don’t always go together; he asks if she is turning him down… she says she just doesn’t want to get married just because they are having a baby.  He says it’s more than that; she questions if he still loves her.  He says “yes” and says he was just afraid of what everybody else thought; he says he has never, ever stopped loving her.  She says “yes, I’ll marry you” and hugs him; his face over her shoulder says it all.

Drew comes to see Elizabeth and asks if he received an invitation to the wedding by mistake; she laughs and tells him it was actually Franco’s idea to invite him.  She assures him that she also wants him there though; he wonders if it is really a good idea, though.  He says he is a reminder of the worse thing that ever happened to Franco.  Liz tells Drew, Franco actually cares about him and considers him a friend; Drew laughs and says he doesn’t think so, but agrees to go, saying, “you’ve got to take care of your friends, right?”  Drew tells Liz he is still struggling with who he really is; she points out that the one good thing that came out of all this is, he doesn’t have to carry the burden of Jason’s past.

Sam and Jason see each other at the gym; Jason tells her that he is worried about Carly.  He says it’s bad in there; the patients are dangerous and that nurse has it out for her.  Sam says Carly is smart, but Jason says he is worried because her instinct is to fight, and that will make things worse.  Sam understands that he can’t let that happen. He says, if he can’t get her released, then he will break her out.  Sam asks then what… he says they could go to Canada until the attorneys work it out; Sam pleads to his reasoning.  She says he can’t become a fugitive again and Carly won’t leave her family; she tells him he just has to prove that Carly is innocent. Sam makes a call; she tells Jason they are going to find that flyer Nelle left on Carly’s window, the two of them, together.  Certain it was written with disappearing ink, they say it will prove Carly’s innocence.

When Dante leaves, they kiss goodbye, and Lulu breaks down in tears as she recalls how they first met, at the bar, playing pool.  Michael comes in to see Dante, looking for a marriage license; Chase tells him Dante isn’t there.  He looks at Michael with concern, and says, “isn’t it a little fast?”  Michael smiles and admits it is, but says he knows what he is doing; Chase looks concerned… Nelle just smiles gleefully.
